OneSteel plays a significant role in the local communities in which it operates. Combining Smorgon Steel's operations has expanded OneSteel's community footprint even further with more than 11,000 employees across Australia and 21 offshore facilities. OneSteel’s operations are of significant regional importance.
For OneSteel, community represents the lifeblood that underpins our operations. The community supports our people, providing services that we all use in our daily lives. Without the support of the community we don't have a business.
With steel playing such a significant role in the everyday lives of all Australians, it is important for OneSteel to be actively involved in community support programs. Support is given to local community on a number of different levels:-
· OneSteel OneCommunity Giving Program
· Corporate donations
· Local donations
· Community Support
The OneCommunity Giving program was launched in December 2003 and provides OneSteel with the chance to give something back to the community. The program allows employees to donate to 12 different charities and for every dollar donated, OneSteel has committed to match all contributions up to $250,000 per annum.
As at end End February 2009, OneSteel has donated over $900,000 towards community.
